Model Preferences

Settings → Model preferences is where you set the defaults every new chat starts with: which model writes the answers, which model generates images, and which language the AI replies in. The interface language and the theme are on a separate page, Language, input & appearance.

Choose Your Default Chat Model

Under Language Model, pick the model used when you start a new chat. You can switch the model in any conversation, so this is just the starting point. The link Model capabilities overview below it compares what each model can do. Premium models (marked with a flame in the model picker) are not offered here: you can pick one for a single chat, but not save it as your default.

Choose Your Image Generation Model

Under Image Generation Model, pick the model used when you ask for an image.

If your organization has set a default image model, the setting shows Your organization's default with the model's name. It is only a starting point: you can still pick a model of your own. Administrators also see the link Manage in organization.

Set the Language the AI Answers In

Response Language controls the language the AI writes its answers in. It is separate from the interface language: you can keep the interface in German and still have the AI answer in English.

Model Cost Warnings

When an expensive model handles a task that a smaller model would do just as well, a short note appears under the answer and recommends a lighter model. Switch Model cost warnings off to hide these notes. The setting applies to the device you change it on.

Outdated-Model Warnings

With Outdated-model warnings switched on, DeutschlandGPT warns you when you pick an outdated model or a chat runs on one, and suggests a current model. See Outdated models. This switch also applies to the device you set it on.
