Notifications
Which occasions reach you as a system notification, the test notification, sound and the icon badge
The desktop app can reach you while its window is in the background or hidden in the tray. Settings, Notifications decides when it does.
System notifications
The master switch. Off, the app sends no system notification at all, whatever the switches below say.
Switching it on is also the moment the operating system asks for permission. That is deliberate: asked at startup, the prompt gets dismissed reflexively and is then denied for good, which is hard to undo.
If you declined the prompt earlier, the switch alone is not enough. Allow DeutschlandGPT in your system's notification settings, otherwise both macOS and Windows drop the notification silently without telling the app.
Occasions
One switch per occasion, so an interruption worth having is not bundled with one that is not.

Notify while in the foreground is off by default. With it off, no notification arrives for the run you are currently looking at, since you can already see it happen. Turn it on if you keep the window on a second screen you do not watch.
Test notification
Sends one notification so you can see whether it reaches you. This is the only way to find out from inside the app, because a suppressed notification is never reported back: both macOS and Windows discard it silently when the app is switched off there.
If the confirmation says it was sent and nothing appears, the problem is in your system settings, not in DeutschlandGPT.
Sound
Plays a sound when a response arrives.
Icon badge
Shows unread indicators as a badge on the app icon in the dock or taskbar.
What actually notifies you
Two things use this channel, and both are documented on Reminders and notifications: reminders you or the assistant created, and progress reports from runs in Code and Cowork. Scheduled Cowork tasks report through it as well.
