Appearance, zoom, interface language, the installed version and the update check

Settings, General holds the settings that describe the app itself rather than your account. All of them apply to this device only.

Appearance

Light, dark, or System. With System the app follows what your operating system is set to and switches along with it, including an automatic switch in the evening if you have that configured.

Zoom

Scales the whole interface in fixed steps: 80, 90, 100, 110, 125 and 150 percent. 100 percent matches the browser app exactly.

This is not a font size. Buttons, spacing and panels grow with the text, so nothing overlaps at a large step. Smaller steps fit more of a conversation and more of a file tree on screen, larger steps are mainly there for anyone who finds the default too small.

App language

The language of the interface: German or English. It changes labels, buttons and messages in the app. It does not change the language the assistant answers in, that is Answer language and it belongs to your account.

Version

The installed version of the app, read only. Keep it at hand when you report a problem: two installations reporting the same behaviour on different versions are two different problems.

Updates

Shows the state of the automatic update check in words, plus a Check now button. Without this row the check would be invisible: either the banner appears or it does not, and every reason it might not look identical from outside.

StatusWhat it means
Up to dateThis build is the newest one offered
Version x availableAn update is ready. The button next to it downloads and installs it, then restarts the app
Managed by your IT departmentInstalled centrally through MSI, DEB or RPM. Updates come from your IT department, not from the app
Update server unreachableThe update host does not answer from this network
Update server blocked on this networkSomething in between, usually a proxy or a filter, refuses the connection

For every state other than "up to date" and "available", the row also names the update host it asked. That is the fastest fact to read out to whoever is helping you, because two installations on the same version can still have been built against different update endpoints.

An update is never installed in the background while you work. It is downloaded when you click, and applied on restart. Controlling updates covers the rollout side.
