Files and Attachments
Which files you can attach in chat, the limits per message and file, and how long documents, archives and audio are handled
The + button in the input bar attaches files to a message. You can upload from your computer or pull a file straight from a connected integration.
Attach a File
- Upload from your computer: Opens the file picker of your operating system. You can attach up to 10 files per message, each up to 100 MB. Images can only be attached when the selected model can see images. If an image is in the input bar anyway (pasted, dropped, or the model was changed afterwards), a short note under the attachments says so, and Use a model that can see images switches the model before you send.
- Attach from integrations: Picks pages from Confluence, files from SharePoint / OneDrive, or files from a WebDAV server (Nextcloud, ownCloud and similar, one entry per connected server). Confluence and SharePoint are always listed; if you have not connected them yet, the entry takes you to the integrations page. This path needs a model that can use tools.
A file from a connected integration does not have to be downloaded and uploaded again. Pick it in this menu.
Supported File Types
| Type | Formats |
|---|---|
| Text and code | All common code, configuration and markup files, for example py, js, ts, java, cs, go, sql, md, txt, log, json, xml, yaml, toml, ini, css, tex, tsv, diff |
| Documents | pdf, docx, dotx, doc, rtf, pptx, potx, html. A Word or PowerPoint template (dotx, potx) is read like a normal document. Attaching it in chat does not save it as an Office template; that happens under Office templates. |
| Emails | eml, msg: the message and its text attachments are read |
| Spreadsheets | xlsx, xls, csv: read as tables with sheets, rows and columns |
| Archives | zip (see below) |
| Images | jpg, jpeg, png, gif, webp, tif, tiff, bmp, ico, avif, svg, eps. The last seven are converted to PNG on upload, so a model that can see images reads them like any other image. An EPS file works without exporting a JPEG first. |
| Audio | mp3, wav, m4a, flac, ogg, opus, aac, webm, wma. The recording is transcribed on upload and the model reads the transcript. The 100 MB limit applies; long recordings are split automatically, so there is no separate length limit. |
| Sandbox only | ppt (old PowerPoint), odt, ods, odp (OpenDocument), ifc, ifcxml, ifczip (BIM models), dxf, dwg (CAD drawings). These are stored, but their text is not read into the chat; the model works with them in the sandbox. Export a .dwg as .dxf first for best results. |
When agent mode is on, every attached file is also available in the sandbox, so the model can process it with code. Images go there too.
Long Documents
A long document, such as a standard, a manual or a PDF with several hundred pages, is uploaded in full. Only the beginning of its text goes into the conversation context directly; the input field marks such an attachment. The rest is not lost: the complete file is available in the sandbox, and the model can open or search it there. Ask about the passage you need.
If you want the whole text in front of the model at once, upload the relevant chapter or a single PDF rather than a large collection.
A single message has a character limit. In the main chat a notice tells you when typed or pasted
text goes past it. Put longer material, such as a transcript or a long report, into a file
(.txt, .docx or .pdf) and attach it instead.
Archives
A .zip file is unpacked, and its text, CSV, Excel and email files are read. PDFs and Office documents inside a zip are not unpacked, and other archive formats (.7z, .rar, .tar.gz) are not unpacked at all. These files are stored and available in the sandbox. For the best result, upload the documents from the archive individually.
