Rate limits, the monthly budget cap, what a widget costs and where to see the spend
This feature is in beta. It is usable, but details can still change.
A public chat on your website can be used by anyone, so every widget has limits that bound abuse and cost. They sit under Security and apply immediately, without a publish.
Rate limits
Three limits cap how many messages may be sent:
- Requests per minute (per IP) and Requests per day (per IP) slow down a single visitor or script. They are best-effort, because visitors can change their IP address.
- Requests per day (whole widget) is the real ceiling across all visitors together.
A visitor who hits a limit sees "Too many requests. Please try again shortly."
Messages per conversation
Max messages per conversation counts every message, from the visitor and from the bot. When it is reached, the visitor is asked to start a new conversation.
Steps per answer
Steps per answer is how many times the bot may think or search the knowledge base for one answer (default 10). More steps give better answers to complex questions, at a higher cost per message.
Monthly budget cap
The Monthly budget cap in euros is a ceiling for this widget. Once this month's spend reaches it, the widget pauses: the chat button no longer appears on your pages, and a chat that was already open answers "This assistant is currently disabled". A paused widget stays paused, also into the next month: raise or clear the cap, then publish again to switch it back on. Cost is known only after a reply finishes, so a few messages already in progress may overshoot the cap slightly. Leave it empty for no cap.
The same pause happens when the whole workspace runs out of credit or reaches its monthly spending limit. Install then shows that visitors were turned away and why. Add credit first, then publish again.
What a widget costs
Chatbot widgets are billed pay-as-you-go against your workspace credits, at the standard pay-as-you-go chat rate of the model that answers. Voice input is billed the same way as text. Your credit balance and top-ups are under Billing → Credits. The budget cap and the rate limits are your tools to keep the spend predictable.

Analytics shows conversations, messages and cost for a time range you choose, a trend chart, and the most frequent first questions. The cost shown there is what is billed. Top questions only appear when transcripts are stored and visitors agreed; see Transcripts and privacy.
